Rhinestone pattern generator
A pattern is the arrangement; a template is the sheet of holes you cut. A generator has to decide three things — stone size, spacing, and how the rows pack — and then keep those numbers honest all the way to the file.
Type a name or drop an image. True-size SVG and a printable PDF, no account.
Pattern, template and transfer are three different things
- Pattern — where each stone sits, in millimetres. Get this wrong and nothing downstream can be fixed.
- Template — a physical sheet with holes cut at the pattern positions, so stones drop into place.
- Transfer — the carrier tape that lifts the placed stones onto the garment as one piece.
Most confusion in craft forums comes from mixing these up: a pretty pattern that is not cuttable is a design, not a template.
Two ways to pack stones
| Square grid | Offset (honeycomb) | |
|---|---|---|
| Spacing | Rows and columns align | Every other row shifts by half a step |
| Best for | Lettering, simple logos, easy counting and repair | Curves, filled shapes, denser coverage |
| Trade-off | Slightly more material per stone | Harder to count and to weed by hand |
| Row pitch | Stone diameter + gap | (Stone diameter + gap) × √3⁄2 — about 13% tighter |
Rule of thumb: names and numbers → square. Filled shapes and curves → offset.
Scatter patterns are a different job
“Scatter” means stones placed at random densities to imitate a spray of sparkle. That is a design decision, not a sampling of artwork, and this tool does not do it — it samples the artwork you give it, so the pattern always follows your letters or silhouette.
If you need true scatter, you want a design app with a brush or spray tool, not a generator.
Generate, then verify in three numbers
- Stone count — it tells you how many stones the project will consume. Check it against what you have in the drawer.
- Finished size — the width you actually want on the garment, not the width the screen happened to show.
- Hole diameter — a measured stone plus 0.1–0.2 mm. If you cannot state this number, stop and measure.
Those three numbers appear live in the tool, and they are the same numbers written into the exported SVG and PDF.
Questions
Can I generate a random scatter pattern?
No. This generator samples the artwork you provide, so the pattern follows your lettering or silhouette. True scatter placement needs a design app with a brush tool.
Square grid or honeycomb — which should I pick?
Square for names, numbers and simple logos: easier to count and repair. Offset rows for filled shapes and curves, because the packing follows the outline more closely.
What stone sizes can I use?
Any diameter between 1 mm and 8 mm. SS6/SS10/SS16/SS20/SS30 are presets, and the custom field takes a measured value — which is more reliable than the label on the bag.
