Rhinestone template for Cricut

Design Space will happily shrink your design to fit the screen. For a rhinestone template that is fatal — the holes stop matching the stones. Here is the workflow that keeps it honest on a Cricut.

Type a name or drop an image. True-size SVG and a printable PDF, no account.

Make a template

The four checks that matter on a Cricut

  1. Import at 1:1. Design Space keeps the SVG units, but always confirm the width shown in the canvas against the number the maker reported.
  2. Hole size, not design size. Zoom in on one hole and measure it. A design that is the right width can still have holes at the wrong diameter if the file was resized in a different app first.
  3. Template material, not vinyl. Rhinestone templates are cut from template material or stencil film; ordinary vinyl stretches and the holes close.
  4. Blade and pressure. A dull blade drags and welds small holes shut. Cut the calibration strip before the real thing.

Step by step

  1. Open the free maker, type a name or drop a bold PNG.
  2. Pick SS6 / SS10 / SS16 / SS20, or type a measured diameter.
  3. Check the dot preview: every hole should be visible and evenly spaced.
  4. Download the SVG. Print the tiled PDF only if you are hand-punching.
  5. In Design Space, import, set the width to the reported value, and confirm one hole measures correctly.
  6. Cut the calibration strip, check the stones fit, then cut the template.

Honest status

This tool has been tested for geometry, unit accuracy and export dimensions, but it has not yet been validated on a physical Cricut cut. Please treat the calibration strip as required, not optional, and check a small sample before committing template material or a full design.

Questions

Does Design Space accept this SVG?

Design Space imports SVG files. The export carries explicit millimetre dimensions and independent circles per stone, so the geometry is preserved — but always confirm the reported width after importing.

Do I need a paid Design Space plan?

No. The SVG import and cutting workflow described here use the standard, free Design Space account.

What size should the hole be?

Start about 0.1–0.2 mm larger than the stone so it drops in, then test. Nominal SS sizes vary between suppliers, so measure a stone from the pack you will actually use.
